When a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit Morocco last Friday, entire villages were wiped out in just seconds. The epicentre of the quake was high in the Atlas Mountains - around 70 kilometres south of Marrakesh.
Search and rescue teams are struggling to reach the remote towns scattered throughout the landscape, and the people who live there have been left to dig through the rubble with their bare hands. Their hope of finding survivors is fading with time.
Middle East correspondent Tom Joyner reports from the earthquake zone.

Sadly many countries have sent rescue teams and Moroccan government has allowed them into the country but logistics are not in place to give them a territory to work with it. I have volunteered with teams like this in the past it is very intense but if you do not have a system in place before the teams land they usually have to return to their country of origin without doing the work they want there to carry out.

Heartbreaking, they need to allow the help to come into the communities, I don't understand why only a few countries when others have offered to help as well. God Bless them and give them the strength to hold on.
11 дней назадMaxMor +10
what kind of help other countries could offer now? food water tents .... Moroccans brought that to most damaged villages. The main problem was destroyed roads into these villages, and International aid couldnt do anything with that. Moroccan army was there and that was enough though.

In this video the villagers said they didn't have blankets to keep themselves warm or their children, clothing was needed as well, so I'm assuming you are there and you know better? They need medical, they need rescue teams, they still need help and if I were their leader, I would welcome it!

Moroccans discovered the true free media. A lot of propaganda. We Moroccan thank the work of all the rescue worker and the people who cleared the roads in few days in an area twice the size of Belgium or west Virginia that have montagne from 2000 to 4000 meters. In the first 2 days they found 2300 deals and 3500 injured and since those critical days they found the rest on extra 600 people . If you dropped rescue workers in the area by themselves they ll be still walking to get to the 1st village.

@BKM Do you know how many villages there and houses? it s 50 000 houses . It s remote area... so much aid going there everyday.. from all over Morocco. Have you seen that? It s not a flat land when u can easily bring the aid to its people... it s high atlas montain.. a closed road makes it very hard to get there...

Rescue teams was not the problem. The problem is the roads were blocked and this villages are up high in the mountains

Absolutely heartbreaking 😢😢😢

our governments clearly said that aid would be accepted after checking the type of aid offered and whether it would be useful. roads were blocked and helicopters could not land in any villages. these villages are in the atlas mountains, which are difficult to access. it makes no sense to let aid arrive if it will cause chaos

For all those saying why Morocco didnt allow international help. it s not a matter of not allowing their help. guys it high atlas montains, we know the area more than any other country. the main problem was blocked and destroyed roads, you cant get access to these areas, what could a group 50 rescue members and 5 dogs from France could do in that case? The army was needed and we have army and it s all over there. we dont need food or clothes,, moroccans bring that from all cities to these areas.

Trust me we did the possible. Foreign aid could not do anything better. The villages are remotely located In the high Atlas mountains. Moroccan military worked with the helicopters untill the roads were evacuated, some fallen rocks in the roads were so huge like a small mountain and the Moroccan authorities did the work in couple of days to give access to so many villages. Our king did what he could do, donated hos blood in a very touching manner knowing that his health is fragile, our gendarmerie, military corps, doctors did a wonderful job. Some countries are blaming us for not accepting foreign aid but they don't understand the situation on the ground. We in Morocco know that our authorities did a great job and trust me many countries in Europe in the same circumstances wouldn't do any better.

The King of Morocco has wealth up to $8 billion dollars - why is he not using his money to help his people -
11 дней назадZouzou G - Amazigh +3
He had just donated 100 millions of dollars. His fortune is less than 4,5 billions and shared with his family. Honestly he took the best decisions. Thanks to our armed forces and civil protection who unblocked the narrow roads or the high atlas mointains

@Zakaria aid comes in many forms. Not just rescue, food/water. Theres 100,000 displaced peoples. The government needs to implement a plan going forward. Rehousing, replacing roads and water supplies. International aid can help with rebuilding too. It needs to happen sooner rather than later. Transparency is vital.
