The fact that Kissinger is still alive and not in jail is a travesty.

The fact that he is still alive, is an even bigger travesty !

@fractalign I'd agree to that if I didn't think youtube would ban me lol.

Regarding human rights abuses in Chile, neither kissinger nor nixon cared one bit. One can see this by looking at the war of independence of Bangladesh, another situation in which they had influence. They supported Pakistan, despite its horrible human rights abuses and mass killings of people in Bangladesh.
10 дней назадJustin +11
Given how expensive NYC is to live in, I doubt allowing migrants to work immediately on arrival would solve the issue. Especially when the type of work they do will likely be low-paid. Why people will not face the fact that sudden, mass migration is a bad idea is beyond me.
10 дней назадMrPanda2577 +4
Should probably act fast on climate change then
10 дней назадZei33
My thoughts are the same when I hear they gun it for big cities rather than living in the towns they came into first. How about settling for what you get and integrating where it’s not gonna cause issues, rather than rushing to the places where you’re gonna cause the most trouble?

Inflations rates in Australia, Asia and Europe closely track that of the US. Since all markets are dependent on their trading partners, how can the US lower its inflation if inflation is a global issue?
10 дней назадitsoutofcontrol
But Russia's inflation has like stabilised
10 дней назадZei33 +1
@itsoutofcontrol you can’t trust those numbers… even if you could 6 to 7% is not good. It’s likely higher. Don’t even know why people are worried when the USD is having the best performance of any and the US economy has some of the lowest inflation in the world.
10 дней назадJim Schachtschneider +5
Immigration is a huge problem globally. Given the number of failed states in Asia, Africa and South America - I don't see any easy solutions.
10 дней назадsome guy +1
Yes, but why are they failing? The world will see 9 billion by the end of the century and they are not being born in the rich northern countries. It seems we need a more humane and global approach to this problem.

Thanks for covering the US… I have to rely on foreign reporting to get an honest evaluation of the state of my country.
10 дней назадOz Matterhorn +1
I understand why you say that. I follow US politics like a sport. I find it much more fascinating than Australian politics at home. The objective way this show approaches events without left or right leaning shaded glasses is really good tbh. And some great nuggets of insight and perspective.
9 дней назадGrutte Pier
@Oz Matterhorn don't trust legacy media.
4 дня назадZei33 +3
Immigration is the one policy I agree with republicans on. It should be tightly controlled and the numbers allowed in should be scientifically supported to best avoid problems and improve the economy. It shouldn’t be the US’s job to accept immigrants just because they’re a wealthy country.
10 дней назадbarryschwarz
How do they control it in a way that isn't too costly? US borders are extremely porous and it's not feasible to ring the country with an impenetrable wall (speaking metaphorically). So controlling numbers becomes about relocating people internationally. That's expensive, and.... where would they deposit them?
10 дней назадZei33
@barryschwarz to start off with, stricter laws on employment and taxation. It’s not that hard to identify illegal workers. I don’t know the exact answer, but harsher treatment needs to be considered. Something like, “tell us where you’re from so we can send you back or we imprison you until you tell us.” Stricter enforcement of law over an extended period _will_ decrease the number attempting to come into the country. If it’s clear that you’ll be caught and deported every time or face imprisonment, then the numbers won’t keep ballooning like they are. No other country has such a serious problem with this issue. Tighter laws all around on identity is something the US needs. But I know it won’t happen because the US system is barely functional with so many opposing views.
10 дней назадbarryschwarz +3
@Zei33 Do you think it's cheaper to house and then deport, or allow immigrants to work soon after arriving so that they can pay their own way? There is a shortage of workers in the US. Reserve Bank estimates that there are 3.5 million less workers than pre-pandemic. Wouldn't an answer for right now be to streamline applications so that the workforce can regrow and the government spend less supporting immigrants?
10 дней назадZei33 +2
@barryschwarz illegal immigrants bring a host of issues to the country. If you need workers, increase legal immigration. But a constant inflow of illegal immigration helps nobody.
10 дней назадbarryschwarz
@Zei33There's no easy fix with porous borders. It's all very well to say ekkp them out, but this is near impossible to do. So you have to work with the assumption that they'll get in, and work out the best way forward. There are various measures of increasing harshness to send a message to would-be 'unlawful' immigrants, but there is a limit to how harsh they can be based on the laws of the land. Texas tested that with razor wire and barriers in the Rio Grande, and went too far. There's no question it's a big problem. i'm just asking how to actually solve it in a way that is financially feasible, and keeps on the ethical side of human rights.

Good show guys, thanks. How come ABC allows comments on this channel, BTW? Must be their only channel they do allow them. But good on them for that.
10 дней назадJuicyNugget +1

10 дней назадZen 1 +3
There's a few ABC videos that have regularly have comments on. I think comments are off for news stories which have highly credible sources and they don't want the possibility of unsubstantiated rumor grade news to be put alongside it.
10 дней назадProtect Us Please +9
I think comments are turned off on ABC content at times is due to adults can’t act like grownups keeping their comments respectful. I suppose if comments become disrespectful here the same result will happen- so keep it respectful everyone as I enjoy reading everyone’s comments.

22:33 Ridiculous, these middle class people discussing this don't have a clue as to the pressures all these migrants cause coming all at once. Pressures on an already desperate rental housing situation and depressed wages that will be depressed even more by desperate migrants. It's not the migrant's fault but the US can't fix its poverty already, let alone the migrant situation Same goes for Europe and Australiasia...

Ssssssooooooo 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 just because we use something more, at a certain time of year. That gives businesses the right to raise the price of that item??? Like fuel?? It's crap like this that needs to stop. Don't raise the price just because families are going on vacation during summer. And food prices go up too, but the food prices rarely go down. Thank you everyone who voted for Biden. I'm sure all the businesses that went bankrupt and families who are homeless now also thank you.
