A floating barge operated by an Australian company has become a symbol of the British government's hardline approach to refugees. The vessel - called the Bibby Stockholm - is supposed to house some of the tens of thousands of asylum seekers crossing the English Channel.
The Australian ASX-listed company in charge of it - Corporate Travel Management - stares down a potential shareholder backlash. Rhiana Whitson reports.

Meanwhile, there are many British homeless people no one seems to care about.

You can chew gum and walk. Economists have proven asylum-seekers help grow the economy. The government could just build social housing and home people believe it or not.

“14 people have died.” What do they expect when they try to enter the country illegally? A presidential suite at Park-Hyatt?

Alexander Downer is spot on when he says these people are destination shoppers. And Amnesty International have to be realistic and understand that there is no perfect solution. The uks infrastructure cannot cope and if this is not stopped civil unrest or worse will result. What really gets my goat is that these people are jumping the queue. I lived and worked in the Middle East where I had my eyes well and truly opened. Most do not understand the ways of the west with many actually hating us mainly for our unwise involvement in their wars. Many will ruthlessly lie through their back teeth to get what they want so it does not surprise me that they lie about their age. And before anyone pulls the racist card on me , I have worked with true refugees and advocated positively on their behalf where appropriate. But the situation is desperate and desperate situations call for desperate measures. Sadly that will involve taking a harder line.

The clips of video showing the accommodation, reveal better circumstances than we had in the military. I recall these illegals complaining when they found themselves in UK barracks. I wonder if there is not some woke socialist political lobby behind those (mainly women) finding fault with this. It happens to be a "roof over their heads", shelter and I saw catering there also. So those complaining ignore the UK's dire economic situation and the legal citizens interests, to represent illegals who had a CHOICE to come or not. Something wrong in all these complaints. Here is a suggestion, how about accommodating every one of these in 6-star accommodation, fully serviced - and by the way this is going, exile those born in the UK, especially those whose ancestry traces back many centuries.

That thing looks sturdy enough to tow these people back to their port of origin, its way safer than how they got here under their own steam.

“How inhumane this is to house people in barges” So, all those British builders and workers on oil rigs are being treated inhumanely? Places where fires are high risk. The double standard against our own people is actually disgusting

No they aren't you should complain to the CEOs of the corps that run that

Yeah but they are being paid to be there so it’s a completely different argument you are making.
